An effort in creative undoing of the false indivi-dualistic self in order to get established as the true non-dualistic Self which is Satyam-Gnanam-Anantam Brahma(n). This is Moksha, Enlightenment or Self-Realization.
When you sleep, your identity is completely lost. After you wake up, you become aware of mind, body, world, relationship, your duties, achievements, hurts, pleasures, thoughts about past, future etc. Now, you dont need samadhi. Sleep had already clearly separated you the Self, from your false identity. Can you, after waking up, just be acutely aware of every movement of mind towards giving energy to false identity and let it go, so that throughout the day your Self-knowledge is in tact ? When everyday this is your life, then you have transcended this painful existence or samsara !
PS: Remembering the Self is not transcendence. It is a mental act. But catching the mind at the very moment it is running towards its identity is transcendence !

But sleep doesn’t result in realisation. Why? Looks like Mind has to be alert to realize our svarupam.
If you have been seeking the Truth of this world experience for many life times and now are sharp enough to see that the idea of external material world existing all by itself is only a conditioning repeated infinite times from childhood like A for Apple, B for Ball etc instead of A for Apple Consciousness, B for Ball consciousness etc, then sleep is a direct evidence for the Truth that waking state is no different from dream and you are only pure consciousness. We prefix OM ( ॐ) in front of everything because OM is symbol of consciousness and for us consciousness is primary and world and individual are dream arising in it. But if you were not seeking an answer for this world experience, then Vedanta will just go as an information into your mind. To become a singer is one thing and to merely enjoy a song is another thing ! Unless you are a philosopher with viveka, vairagya, shat sampatthi and mumukshatva, your ignorant momentum will only dominate and no amount of listening, reasoning will result in direct realization of this grand Truth that Brahman alone is the only Reality and jiva/jagat is just a dream experience.
Ok, you are saying samadhi is not required for jnana. My question was more in terms of difference between samadhi and deep sleep. Regardless mind/intellect has to be convinced, right?
You are trying to achieve jnana ! Whereas jnana has to strike you like a lightning because you have been looking for answer for many life times and have patiently eliminated within yourself, all wrong possibilities. Because people have access to spiritual literature, they think they have understood, by merely reading it. Hence all the wrong questions come up just like the one you have asked ! Samadhi comes after jnana because you lost interest in the mind and world having realized them as dream. Samadhi achieved by the mind, is still mind only ! Don’t try to confirm or copy anyone else’s experience. Truth seeking has to be completely original.
From your questions I see that you are trying to get somewhere whereas you have to be seeking the Truth of samadhi also !

When it strikes like a lightning, does it strike in the mind/intellect ?

Find out for yourself ! That is called seeking Truth.
I cannot send the lightning through blog or email or whatsapp 🙂. It has to be generated by your own genuine enquiry !
