Dream is as valid as waking and vice versa

He was an early entrant of Moksha club. He is an engineer again and much junior to me. We used to discuss the Truths of mind and world for a long time over phone and in person. But he had his own burden of desires to fulfill and so it all remained at intellectual level for him. He is well read and he is a blogger of some reputation and quite poetical too. He is a good conversationalist, and yet he has only a very select few friends circle. Of late, having reached the middle age, all those spiritual knowledge he uploaded into his mind are facing him and he has renewed interest in understanding them in a much more serious and direct manner.  As he is working  in the land of 50 states, he sent a series of lengthy emails to me and I have chosen to answer this question in one of the emails.

BNS (short name)  In recollection of a dream in waking state I don’t see continuity but i see continuity about waking state during waking state. So the single question for this mail is

Dream state doesn’t seem to have continuity as waking state ….why so ?

Myself. Primary purpose of dream analogy is to show that consciousness alone can create experience without any other support. So one can have a chance to suspect that it is quite possible for waking state also to be similar, ie waking state arising from consciousness alone. Sleep analogy is to show that there are no real objects but only in imagination because in sleep all experience including space, time and objects vanish leaving only the experience of consciousness by itself. Also, within dream you are not suspecting this lack of continuity. You feel completely alright within dream and your experience is as smooth as waking. Ie You experience space and time, the objects, people and all the experience of walking, drinking, touching, interacting etc etc. Sometimes it is very vivid especially for people who have regular habit of meditation. You cannot say it is mere imagination or some replay of memory. It is new experience itself. Again, in dream you completely forget the waking state. The moment you remember waking state, you immediately wake up from the dream. So life alternates between sleep, dream and waking and the consciousness is the witness to all the 3 states.
